Comedo extraction is a widely-used method of treatment for acne vulgaris.[1] A dermatologist or cosmetologist may extract blackheads (open comedones) using gentle pressure around the pore opening, and whiteheads (closed comedones) by incision with a large needle or a blade.[2]

If performed skilfully, this treatment may be beneficial to the patient.[2] Possible negative effects of the procedure include incomplete extraction, refilling, scarring and tissue damage.[2] There are few articles describing the use of comedo extraction in peer-reviewed dermatology journals.[1] In one 1964 study of extraction of non-inflamed whiteheads on patients' foreheads (the only study of the procedure cited in a 2007 literature review), the procedure reduced the number of future inflamed lesions and the recurrence rate of comedones, but worsened patients' inflamed cystic lesions.[offshore bank account

The 2010 Mumbai oil spill occurred after two Panamian-flagged ships,MSC Chitra and MV Khalijia-III collided off the coast of India neartime. MSC Chitra, which was outborne Mumbai on 7.08.2010 at around 9:50A.M local time from South Mumbai’s Nava Sheva port collided with theinbound MV Khalijia-III which immediately threw out the oil containersfrom MSC Chitra into the Arabian Sea.  Khalijia-III was apparentlyinvolved with another mishap on July 18, 2010.

MSC Chitra, registered in Panama, is owned by Mediterranean ShippingCompany, a public limited company based in Geneva, Switzerland. Itsmanagement operations are conducted from Hong Kong, while its localagents in Mumbai look after the loading and unloading of its ships.“It’s a big shipping company owing 140 ships,” Mr. Khalid said.

Here’s a sneaky shot of the device in real life, and what appears tobe a screenshot of the desktop. Nice multi-boot setup; with 320GB,you’ve got enough to have a decent-sized partition available, and thismight be a great IT carry-around tool.

The question is, will people find this useful? Personally, I think afull-on OS X tablet would be more useful than a Windows 7 tablet. It’sjust my opinion, but it seems that OS X has a more friendly interfacefor non-mouse interaction. But is it something that is useful at all?Obviously the keyboard will be less useful on the Haptic than on aniPad. Capacitive definitely has the lead there. But if the handwritingrecognition is tolerable, that could be a great way of inputting youroccasional login, search terms, or quick email. As with the iPad, it’samazing what you can get used to. One might be tempted to suggest thatthis will be useful for artists, but Photoshop and other media-heavyprograms will chug on that Atom N270. Even on a MacBook Air they’re notthe swiftest.

A 16-member business delegation from Gujarat is in Canada to attract companies to take part in the fifth annual ‘Vibrant Gujarat’ Summit, to be held on January 12 and 13 in Gandhinagar.

Held biennially immediately after the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas since 2003, the Vibrant Gujarat Summit is aimed at attracting foreign investment and knowhow into the state.

Canada is the first Western country to partner the Vibrant Gujarat Summit.

India replaces US as ideal FDI destination

India has replaced the US as the second most important foreign direct investment (FDI) destination for multinational corporations during 2010-12, according to a survey conducted by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD).

In its latest ‘World Investment Prospect Survey 2010-12’, it said transnational corporations remain buoyant about investment prospects in India, China and Brazil.

The US, this time, has slipped to the fourth position.

DTC Bill prompts Commerce Ministry to consider fresh tax rules for SEZs

The Commerce Department is considering a fresh set of rules for taxing special economic zones (SEZs) in order to cheer investors worried over a sharp drop in tax benefits under the new Direct Taxes Code (DTC) regime.

These proposals will be discussed with the Finance Ministry and placed before the Parliamentary standing committee that will scrutinise the DTC Bill.

The Bill proposes to replace the current benefits that exempt profits from tax (profit-linked exemptions) with rebate for investments made in SEZs (investment-linked exemptions) for both developers of these zones and businesses located in them.

It has also mooted a minimum alternate tax (MAT) of 20 per cent on units.

It is feared that the introduction of DTC is likely to adversely affect the exponential rise in exports from SEZs. These have gone up by 68 per cent during April-June 2010 to Rs 58,685.46 crore, compared to the corresponding period of 2009.

MoF ‘no’ to big SEZs

The Revenue Department has rejected a proposal seeking tax concessions for large SEZs to build infrastructure.

This decision followed the Commerce Department’s backing for the move.

The decision will see costs going up for several SEZs such as the Navi Mumbai SEZ and the Rs 25,000-crore IFFCO-Kisan SEZ coming up in Andhra Pradesh.

The Commerce Department, which had proposed the incentives, said it would pursue the issue in the meeting of the Board of Approvals (BoA) for SEZs later this month, the Commerce Secretary, Dr Rahul Khullar, said.

The Revenue Department has also rejected Navi Mumbai SEZ’s revised proposal for ensuring continuity within the proposed multi-product zone spread over 1,234 hectares with roads and railway lines passing through it.

The developers had said they wanted to ensure continuity by constructing sky-walks and gates instead of flyovers and underpasses as proposed by the government because it involved high costs.

Recycling units

The Centre is understood to be considering stringent norms for plastic recycling following reports of illegal imports of this hazardous waste.

Businesses interested in setting up new plastic recycling units in SEZs may have to invest a minimum of Rs 1 crore in plant and machinery and export 80 per cent of the turnover by the fifth year of their operations, sources revealed.
